We produce integrated biological solutions for drought, insects and disease.

Focus: Wheat Production

  • Wheat supplies 20% of all calories consumed by people.

  • There are 75 million acres in North America and 500 million acres globally of dry land wheat production.

  • Dry land wheat production depends on rainfall for irrigation.

  • Water stress from increasingly erratic rainfall reduces crop yields.

  • Wheat that is under stress is more susceptible to insects such as wheat stem sawfly and diseases including Fusarium head blight

Our goal is to create integrated biological solutions for drought, insects and disease associated with wheat production

Projects

Endophytic fungi

Montana BioAgriculture Inc. is developing strains, formulations and delivery systems for beneficial fungal endophytes in wheat and barley.

  • Symbiotic fungus induces tolerance to water stress.

  • Fungal insect pathogen kills wheat stem sawfly.

  • Fungi induce resistance to Fusarium infection.

Targeted Genetics

Genetic response to fungal endophytes guides development of drought and disease resistant wheat varieties.
